Valencia Luncheria (Venezuelan) – Norwalk, CT – 11/10/08

I found this place by searching Zagat’s online site. One of my good friends from work is Peruvian and has turned me on to Latin restaurants in
Fairfield County. We have a growing group of co-works that have been enjoying his discoveries. Valencia has received high praise from Zagat voters
with a 24 food rating as well as receiving numerous awards. In Fairfield County Valencia has been voted #1 South American, #2 Lunch Spot, and #3
Brunch. The food lived up to the praise.

For lunch I ordered the blue plate special which changes daily. I forgot the exact name but it was chicken legs and thighs which I believe are braised
in a garlicky sauce. The result was extremely flavorful and moist pieces of chicken. It was so good I had to slow myself down from eating so fast. Rice
and black beans accompanied the chicken to make a very filling lunch for only $7.00. The menu includes a long list of empanadas and arepas, which
is a Venezuelan corn cake skilled roasted and then stuffed with a wide variety of fillings. On another visit I got to try one of the arepas for breakfast. It
was stuffed with egg, queso blanco and chorizo. An amazing breakfast and nice alternative to a traditional egg sandwich.

One thing that really stood out to me while I was placing my order is that a lot of people asked for recommendations. It was encouraging to hear that
the recommendations were based on what was the best or freshest for that particular day. One example was with the fruit Jugos. He knew what fruit
was at its peak and made recommendations accordingly. That is a sign of a chef that really cares for his customers. Valencia was probably our
favorite lunch spot over the past 6 months. I know I loved it and can’t wait to go back.
