No Reservations: Hudson Valley (My Version)

February 10, 2010

On Monday Anthony Bourdain visited the Hudson Valley on his show No Reservations which airs on The Travel Channel. I’ve been a fan of show
since its first season and have fantasied about an episode featuring the Hudson Valley. Monday that fantasy became a reality and I was left
completely disappointed. A great thing about the show is that Bourdain really captured the essence of the area he’s visiting, with the Hudson
Valley he failed. I’ve decided to put together the type of show I would have done to give viewers a feel of what the Hudson Valley is all about.

Fleisher’s Grass-Fed Beef and Organic Meats, Kingston NY

Old style butch which supplies restaurants around the region and NYC with high quality grass-fed beef all within a 50 mile radius. While small
town butchers have become almost extinct Fleisher’s thrives by doing things the right way.

Basement Bistro, Earlton NY

Chef Damon Baehrel is one of the top chefs in the country and he does it all from the basement of his own home. He also grows all of his own produce,
smokes his own meats and makes his own cheese and butter. He has no staff and getting a reservation is so difficult that he once had to turn Thomas
Keller away. Chef Baehrel showcases the quality of food from the Hudson Valley like no other chef in the region.

Orvis Sandanona, Millbrook NY

A 400 acre fly fishing preserve and school. Hunting and Fishing has been an important part of the culture of the Hudson Valley even before Henry
Hudson’s arrival. Also could do a clay shooting scene.

Quaker Creek Store, Goshen NY

This is one of the places I would have kept in from the actual episode. I love places like this that make food with care and quality.

Tuthilltown Spirits, Gardiner, NY

Maker of traditional batch-distilled spirits. Should be right up Tony’s alley.

Liberty View Farms, Highlands NY

I don’t think you can do a show about the Hudson Valley without visiting a farm. Now I get it that these scenes have been done before and could be
boring. Owner Billiam van Roestenberg represents a new bred of farmers in the Hudson Valley using social media, innovative marketing and old
fashion hardwork to grow his farm.

I also would have kept in the tug boat ride on the Hudson. Anyone that rides the Metro North Hudson line can attest to the endless stream of tug
boats going up and down the river. I also would have kept in the
Mohonk Mountain House since its such and interesting and beautiful place.

It took me about 20 minutes to create this list so it really makes me wonder what Anthony Bourdain and his producers were thinking with their
version. I still remain a huge fan of the show and can’t wait for next Monday night.
