Le Bouchon (French) - Cold Spring NY - 10/12/07

My wife and I got married in Cold Spring so it will always be a special place for us. Located right on the Hudson it's a great little town with a scenic
main street. Right in the center of town you will find Le Bouchon.

The restaurant is located in what was once a residential home. You get a very welcoming feeling from when you first walk up to front porch which
also includes tables for the warmer weather. The dining room inside is split into two sections offering a very intimate and quiet setting. The walls
are painted a soothing red that works well with the dim lighting. Mirrors throughout also make the space feel warm and comfortable. The homey
feel even continues into the men’s room which still has the old standup shower stall which was artistically used to actually enhance the decor. The
one thing that didn’t fit with the decor was a hand painted mural of Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny advertising their wild game menu. I just seemed
out of place to me.

Chef/Owner Pascal Graff formerly of Les Halles in New York City. Les Halles is the French Bistro that celebrity chef, author and TV host Anthony
Bourdain calls home. The menu offers exactly what you’d expect from the name, classic brasserie cuisine. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the
full menu to provide more detail ;but I do recall being interested in the Duck Confit. I’m a sucker for duck. On this particular evening my wife and I
were trying to stick to both a monetary and caloric budget so we decided to just focus on a main course. Since this was our first visit we stuck to the
classics with my wife ordering the Steak Frits and I tried the Cassoulet. The steak was cooked perfectly to her order and the pommes frites were
fantastic. The Cassoulet had a slight twist. Instead of traditional pork sausage and lamb or pork shoulder it was replaced with duck sausage and
duck leg I believe. Let me tell you, it was a hit. As I mentioned I love duck this just hit the spot. The rest of the dish was constructed as you might
imagine with white beans and topped with crunchy bread crumbs. On a cool fall evening it was exactly what I was looking for. Overall I highly
recommend Le Bouchon to anyone that enjoys the French classics with a local twist. We will definitely be going back but I doubt we will be able to
stick to only a main course. We eager to try their French onion soup and I can almost guarantee I’ll be getting the confit next time.
