Joe's Italian Marketplace - Fishkill NY

Joe’s Italian Marketplace is a must visit for any serious cook in the Poughkeepsie area. Not only is it a high quality Italian deli with a wide variety of
Boars Head Products but it’s also a cheese shop, butcher, baker and gourmet market. On top of that they are also a full service cater and serve a full
menu for breakfast and lunch. I’ve been able to find everything from panko bread crumbs to truffles at Joe’s Italian Marketplace.

An Italian deli is one of those places I took for granted until I moved out of the New York Area. Growing up it was a given that you had several deli’s to
choose from with great cold cuts and fresh mozzarella. I spent three years living in Boston and quickly learned how good we have it in the Tri-state
area. The only place I could find a decent Italian deli in Boston was if I traveled into the North End. In New York literally every town has at least one.
In Fishkill, Joe’s Italian Market is one of the best I’ve been to, not only for the quality of their products but also the variety. You can purchase
everything that you’d need for a meal with the exception of produce.

The deli is probably the bulk of their business with crowds forming around lunch time ordering one of their 30 or so custom sandwiches. One of my
personal favorites is the Vincenzo, Roast Beef, Prosciutto, Fresh Mozzarella, Baby Greens, Red Onion, Horseradish Mayo served on a wedge roll. They
have a wide variety of cold cuts including Italian specialties like mortadella and imported provolone.

On the far end of the deli counter you’ll find the cheese shop ranging from English Stilton’s to French St. Andre cheese. In total I’d guess they have
over 40 different kinds of cheese to choose from. It’s the perfect place to go if you are planning a cheese plate as part of your dinner. They also carry
several local cheeses including Coach Farms and Sprout Creek. Of course they have their own fresh mozzarella.

On the other end of the counter is the butcher case including chicken, sausage, several different cuts of beef and on occasion even New Zealand racks of
lamb. They also take special orders so if there is something you are looking for just let them know. If you are able to plan ahead they have been able to
meet all of my needs. The other nice this is that they will cut to your specifications. For example the filet migon is cut from the full tenderloin
allowing you to get the exact thickness you’re looking for.

The market includes a full row of dry pasta in just about every shape you could imagine plus a bunch of stuffed pastas in the frozen section. If you are
looking for high quality olive oils and vinegars this is the place. A few years ago on a trip to Sonoma we purchased a unique olive oil from BR Cohen
vineyards, only to learn that we could have bought it right down the street at Joe’s. At least now we know we don’t have to fly to California for more.
Balsamic vinegar is also one of their strengths with several levels of aging available and even a few that are under lock and key because of their price.
This is the real stuff and you’ll know the difference as soon as you taste it. They also stock a sampling of Asian ingredients and hot sauces. The
refrigerated section includes locally produced dairy products and even demi glace. I think what I’m getting at is that if there is something you can’t
find at other stores, Joe’s has it. I learned from experience and just go to Joe’s first to save the hassle of running all over town.

As you are checking out don’t forget to pick up a loaf of bread or foccacia to complete your meal. For a relatively small store Joe’s really does have
everything you need.
