Cedar Street Restaurant (American) - Sturbridge MA - 10/20/07

This weekend we headed up to Sturbridge Massachusetts. My sister in-law and her husband live in Cambridge and we were looking for a place to
meet between us both to celebrate our two year wedding anniversaries which are about a month apart. After taking a walk back in time at
Sturbridge Village we were ready for dinner.

Cedar Street Restaurant is located probably less than a mile from the Old Village. Reservations are recommended. We got there around 6 PM and the
small parking lot was already full. Once inside we knew we had made the right choice. The dining area split between three rooms. I would describe
the menu as new American but they had influences of Asian, French and Italian on some of the dishes.

A warm basket of fantastic bread was served first with a butter that had a citrus undertone. I think they might put a little orange rind in the
butter, it was a nice touch. My wife and I shared the Olive tapenade to start. The menu changes seasonally and that is always a sign of a good
restaurant. It means they use the best ingredients available rather than relying on inferior goods to force into a dish. We were a party of six so I had
the opportunity to see and try several of the main courses.

The winner of the table seemed to be my wife’s Apple Cider Brined Pork Chop with Cheese Grits and Green Beans. The pork was cooked perfectly at
medium leaving it tasty and moist. I recommend ordering pork when dinning out because it can often be a dish that is overcooked it at home. Also it’
s ok to order pork cooked medium. You don’t have to cook it till it’s all dried out and completely pale white. I think pork chops get a bad rap because of
this. Brining is also another key to keeping pork and poultry moist. I tried the Seafood Bouillabaisse which included shrimp, mahi mahi, scallops and
mussels in a fish broth with stewed onions and tomatoes. It also came with two slices of toasted bread with olive tapenade. I wasn’t incredibly hungry
so it was just what I was looking for. The broth was great for dipping the bread and the seafood seemed fresh and was cooked well. Around the rest of
the table we ordered a duck breast with a pistachio crust, salmon, NY strip and mushroom risotto. The risotto by the way was a very large portion if
you have a large appetite. I don’t really each desert but the hits of the table seemed to be the bread pudding.

Overall everyone enjoyed their meal and we would highly recommend Cedar Street over some of the more touristy places in Sturbridge.
