Hudson Valley Food Blog FAQ

Who writes the articles on Hudson Valley Food Blog?

Right now I am the only person writing for and managing the website.

Why was the site created?

Really just as a hobby and to share all the great food experiences I have found in the Hudson Valley. I felt that there was a lack of publications online
focused on the food scene in the Hudson Valley.

Are you’re a professional journalist or chef?

I am neither. I am a home cook and amateur writer. My professional cooking experience is limited. I worked in two professional kitchens over 10 years
ago. I took a few journalism classes in college but that’s it. So I’d classify myself as an amateur. I use my amateur status is part of my perspective.

How do you decide what restaurants to write about?

My intention is to share my experiences with food. That can include anything from cooking, shopping, gardening or dining out at restaurants. I write
about the places that I have researched, discovered or been recommended to by a friend. I do rely on Zagat ratings, local newspapers, chowhound and
other blogs as well. If you have a recommendation let me know.

Who pays for your meals?

I pay for all of my meals personally. I will not accept any free meals.

Do you ever give bad reviews?

First I do not consider my articles to be restaurant reviews. I leave that to other professionals or bloggers. Second, I only write about places I enjoy. My
purpose for writing an article is to share my positive experience so others can try it out for themselves and formulate their own opinions. I feel that
there are so many great places out there that I’d like to focus on sharing those experiences. Also writing is a hobby not a career so I only have so much
time in the day. I already do not have enough time to write about all the great meals, let alone the not so great. Also just because I have not written
about a restaurant doesn’t mean I had a bad experience. I might just not have gotten to it yet.

Where do the pictures on the site come from?

I take all the photos, except for the ones I’m in obviously. Every photo is original on the site except for the Culinary Institute of America logo which was
provided and is used with their permission. I also do not take pictures in fine dining restaurants. I consider it disrespectful to the other dinners and the
establishment that is working hard to create a pleasurable atmosphere.

Do you identify yourself as a blogger/writer when dining at a restaurant?

The majority of the time I do not simply because I am not looking for attention, I’m just out to enjoy a meal. At some smaller places where the
opportunity presents itself I will introduce myself just to be friendly.

Do you accept advertising on the site?

I currently do not accept advertising and am not sure what the future holds.
